Turn away…

u-turn signTurn away from sin! Repentance is a physical act, a turning away, a setting aside, a putting down. We can miss that if our confession is always just words. Here is one way of embodying our need for forgiveness and our repentance.

I did this during a Lent all-age service. On Ash Wednesday, we are marked with an ash cross as a physical symbol of our need for repentance and our forgiveness. I thought that another physical act of repentance was appropriate!

Turn away

We have turned away from God
turn away from the front
We have turned away from God

We have turned away from each other
turn away from each other
We have turned away from each other

We have closed our eyes to the truth
close your eyes
We have closed our eyes to the truth

Loving God, open our eyes to your truth
open your eyes
Loving God,open our eyes to your truth

Loving God, help us to turn to you
turn back to the front
Loving God, help us to turn to you

Loving God, help us to turn to each other

As a symbol of this and of God’s love and forgiveness let us join hands and share the grace with one another:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen.
